You might be asking yourself the question. What is the Mitsubishi Delica? Where can I buy one? and why are people so obsessed with them? As the US’s leading Delica dealership and repair facility, we’re here to answer these questions as once outside observers turned JDM fanatics. Let’s start from the beginning.
A little history: Having been imported on US soil for about 8 years now, these retro stile 90’s vans have gained a cult following here in the US. Today we’re going to spill the beans on the best 4x4 van in the world.
AS you’ll find out by the end of this article, The Mitsubishi Delica is not just a car, and It’s not just a van. Properly tuned & maintainted, It is one of the most capable and respected adventure vehicles in the world, and the US never got em, until now!
How we found out about the Delica:
: Our head mechanic Rondo found this out when he fell in love in a van in New Zealand. Yes, this was a Delica, native to this country but barely imported in US, with the 25 year rule on JDM (japanese domestic market) imports. Fast forward a year and Ron was back in the states reminiscing on past love when he realized these funky 90’s Japanese Vans were few and far between on this side of the Pacific… Lucky for us the timing was right and they were just becoming eligible for import.
Our Flag Ship vehicle: The Mitubsihi Delica is THE NOMADIC VAN.

Why we chose the DELICA:
While there were similar offerings from companies like Toyota and Mazda, we fell in love with the Delica for a few reasons. First and foremost its 4 wheel drive system combined with the short wheel base allows the driver to handle slick and uneven surfaces with ease. Its body configuration and drivetrain capabilities were designed around the 4x4 chassis of the Mitsubishi Montero, which is a respected off-road SUV. This model is becoming more popular in the US, making parts easily accessible.
Secondly was the reliable turbo diesel engine these vans came stock with. When we first opened up we were only working on the 4D56 turbo Diesel engine, but over the years we have grown into an “all things Delica” specialty shop. We now service the 6G72, 4D56, D4BF, 4M40, 4G63 and 4G64 engines. We could expound on the importance of our service regimen for pages, so we will leave that for later. Simply put the heart and soul of Nomadic is in our commitment to a reliable engine on the road, regardless of how much work this takes to accomplish.
Third and arguably the most important, the radical aesthetics of the Delica! I mean can you pack more Japanese 90’s funk into a vechile than Mitsubishi did with the Delica L300 Starwagon?? We think not. We treat each van as a canvas, and are constantly trying to create the most badass, head turning adventure vehicles on the road!
FLash forward 6 years from Ron’s faitful New Zleand Delica trip, and we’re fully guns a blazing refurubihsing this awesome machine for exploreres and van enthrusasts all across the contintnet. The work we do on the Delica takes them further to the next level, with :….
